While being adaptable and extendable, the current SIMO is certainly not the most user friendly software you've ever come across. That's something we'll aim to fix next.
The next step
A project is currently underway to build a user interface to unleash the computing capabilities of SIMO to a much wider audience than possible today. The project is funded by The Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation (Tekes), Simosol Oy, UPM-Kymmene Ltd., Tornator Oy, Metsähallitus, Forestry Development Centre Tapio and the Forestry Centres.
That's not all
The project isn't limited to the UI. We'll plan to add spatial data processing as an integrated part of the simulation and optimization. Another thing in the pipeline is the parallelization of the planning computations.

Parhaillaan on käynnissä kehitysprojekti SIMO-käyttöliittymän rakentamiseksi. Tarkoituksena on mahdollistaa SIMOn käyttäminen paljon nykyistä laajemmalle käyttäjäkunnalle. Hanketta rahoittavat Tekes, Simosol Oy, UPM-Kymmene Oyj, Tornator Oy, Metsähallitus, Metsätalouden kehittämiskeskus Tapio ja Metsäkeskukset.

Hankkeessa kehitetään käyttöliittymän lisäksi itse suunnittelulaskentaa. Paikkatiedon käsittely yhdistetään kiinteäksi osaksi simulointi- ja optimointilaskelmia. Lisäksi laskenta rinnakkaistetaan, mikä mahdollistaa merkittävästi nykyisiä laskentoja vaativampien suunnittelulaskentojen tekemisen.
